5 Second Rule? Or 7 Second?

When you drop a piece of barbie meat onto the ground, just how long is it before you can pick it up without suffering embarrassment and/or disease?

The  “5 second rule” or a “7 second rule” debate has been taking place on our Aussie BBQ Legends website. It all looks like a bit of fun, but it’ s also deadly serious!

We’re proudly paying homage to awesome Aussie barbies. Over the past few weeks, we’ve been collecting some of the funniest BBQ stories and delicious recipes.

But even more importantly, we’ve been drawing together Aussie BBQ protocols. It’s everyone’s duty to contribute to this barbecue lore, to ensure traditions are maintained and BBQs don’t collapse into chaos.

Some people are entering into the gender debate. What’s the role of men and women at BBQs? One woman tried to take the reins and the barbie ended in flaming disaster. But to be fair, there are plenty of BBQ Blunder stories where men end up being singed.

Australia Day is around the corner, making it the ideal time to spark this debate at home with your family and friends. So when you’re gathered around the hotplate on 26 January, ask everyone what they think is acceptable at barbies.

Take some photos too! Then visit us here again, contribute what you’ve collected, and be in the running to earn tasty prizes from Aussie BBQ Legends.

p.s. Just before Australia Day rolls around, try out some of the recipes from our Recipes page.
